چکیده

In our previous papers (George & Irvine, 1951, 1952, 1953a) we showed that the intermediate compound, which is formed when metmyoglobin (MetMb) reacts with hydrogen peroxide, methyl or ethyl hydroperoxide, may be considered as one in which the iron has an effective oxidation number of + 4. Its relationship to MetMb, represented by Fep3+(H20), is given by the equation, Fep3+(H20) = FepI' + e , where Fe IV stands for the intermediate compound. Since the reaction of MetMb with peroxides is an irreversible, single equivalent oxidation, rather than an equilibrium reaction of the type envisaged in the formation of an enzyme-substrate complex, it seemed possible that other oxidizing agents would also be capable of forming the compound. Taube & Cahill (1951) showed that tetrasulphonated phthalocyanines (TSCP) can be oxidized by electron removal with the ceric ion TSCP -+TSCP+ + e-, (1)

Natural kaolin as an efficient recyclable catalyst for the synthesis of new 2,4-disubstituted quinolines

Substituted 2, 4- diphenyl quinolines were synthesized by a multicomponent domino reaction of anilines, aldehydes and terminal aryl alkynes. The synthetic pathway involves the formation of an imine, followed by the intermolecular addition of an alkyne to the imine. This intermediate immediately undergoes ring closure and oxidative aromatization. The reaction is catalyzed by natural kaolin, a st...

Effects of a-Tocopherol on Metmyoglobin Formation and Reduction in Beef from Cattle Fed Soybean or Cottonseed Meal Diets1

Hereford-Angus crossbred heifers were fed a cottonseed meal-based diet containing gossypol (14 mg free gossypol·kg body wt−1·d−1; CSM), a soybean meal-based diet (SBM), or a-tocopherolsupplemented diets (4,036 IU vitamin E·heifer−1·d−1 for 90 d; CSM+E and SBM+E). The effects of diet on color stability and aerobic metmyoglobin reducing ability of beef longissimus lumborum (LL) and psoas major (P...

Synthesis, Radioiodination and Biodistribution Evaluation of 5-(2-amimo-4-styryl pyrimidine-4-yl)-4-methoxybenzofuran-6-ol

This study describes the organic synthesis of 5-(2-amimo-4-styryl pyrimidine-4-yl)-4-methoxy benzofuran-6-ol (SPBF) as an example of a benzofuran derivative used as a new series of amyloid imaging agents. These benzofuran derivatives may be useful amyloid imaging agents for detecting B-amyloid plagues in the brain of Alzheimer’s disease. The precursor is 1-[6-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzofuran-5-yl]-p...
